Creating Memories with Beverly Todd

Beverly Todd’s Raven Studio is situated in the breathtaking surroundings of New Mexico’s landscape, which serves as a daily inspiration to her and her artwork. On Saturday, August 30th, 2025, as we entered her studio, large canvases filled with colorful abstract brush movements were displayed on the walls, immediately catching the eye. Beverly told the enthusiastic 20 attendees about her work in Abstract Expressionism, which was created almost 100 years ago, and it remains relevant today.

She spoke about her artist journey, what inspires her work, and her many artist techniques/tips.  The dedication to her art practice was apparent, and how she developed a comprehensive art teaching and educational compound was inspirational.

The visit was thought-provoking for artists and non-artists alike, especially when Beverly challenged us to work with boxes of crayons to “create” a memory. The first step was to find our creative source, the wellspring of ideas. To do that, she led us through an exercise drawing from childhood memories and emotions. Then, she took us further by asking us to close our eyes, use the emotions our creation evoked, and make an abstract drawing.

As one participant said, “The sharing and openness were so refreshing. These studio visits are inspiring and invigorating.”

Another member said that even though she is not an artist, she found the visit very interesting and fun. And that she might have been inspired by Beverly to create art.

New member Suzy Moesch observed, “A well-thought-out studio tour that took a lot of time and energy, so well done.”

Long-time artist member Sandi Ludescher said, “These studio visits are the best part of being a member!”

Board Co-Chair Tracy King said, “Having the opportunity to experience Beverly’s personal artist studio and her impressive Santa Fe Artist Getaway art school was absolutely fabulous.”

And here is what Beverly shared about the time we spent in her studio:

“We talked about the Wonder Years—that incredible surge of power and creativity that can come in the second half of our lives. It’s the time when we can finally unravel everything we’ve been told to be and become the best, most authentic version of ourselves. For creative artists, this is pure forward momentum. When we come together, we don’t just share ideas; we fill each other’s buckets. The energy in the room was palpable, and it was a powerful reminder that we are all on this creative journey together.”

Thank you, Beverly, for hosting such a memorable day!
