Statement
I started as a sculptor over 45 years ago and worked in ceramics. I worked for many years in pastels and now oils, focusing mostly on images inspired by nature. Even now, as an oil painter, I approach nature with a sculptor's eye- seeing the way shapes and forms and light and darkness interact. Stylistically, my work often involves detailed impressions of my many natural subjects. My art is unified by the subject of nature and the technique of realism which I work at present in a way that approaches abstraction in close detail.
Fieldwork and travel are very important to me. What does the subject look like in different lights and different seasons? Will my representation show a beautiful scene consistent with organic reality, even if that specific scene only exists in my imagination?
