The New Mexico State Committee of the National Museum of Women in the Arts was established in 1997 to support both the National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington, DC, and NM women-identifying artists by connecting all aspects of the art ecosphere through Community, Education, and Promotion.

We engage NM women-identifying artists and allies with respect, inclusion, support, collaboration, and creativity.

Nearly half (47.6%) of visual artists in the United States are women; on average, they earn 80¢ for every dollar made by male artists.

Righting The Balance

For centuries, women artists were limited in the subjects they could render and the ways they could market art to patrons. Gender bias is less overt today, but women artists still face obstacles and disparities. The National Museum of Women in the Arts (NMWA), established in 1981, was the first museum in the world solely dedicated to championing women artists.

The New Mexico State Committee (NMC) is part of an international network sponsored by NMWA, which supports women artists far beyond the museum walls.

ARTIST REGISTRY

All artist members are invited to showcase their work in our Artist Registry, an online gallery that shares their artwork with an international audience.

For art lovers and champions, the Artist Registry is an opportunity to discover and get to know hundreds of women-identifying artists around the state.

If you’re a woman-identifying artist, we invite you to join us and add your artwork to the Artist Registry. Here’s how.
